A three-storey building crumbled in Lumley Regent at Pentagon Junction this afternoon, leaving scores of residents and passersby in shock and panic.
The collapse, which happened at around 4PM, has left several people injured and others feared trapped beneath the debris.
Eyewitnesses described a sudden, thunderous noise as the structure gave way, sending clouds of dust billowing into the air and triggering immediate efforts by bystanders to assist.
Rescue teams, including the National Fire Force and emergency medical personnel, arrived swiftly at the scene. They began pulling people from the wreckage, while worried family members and friends looked on anxiously.
Authorities have cordoned off the area to facilitate the rescue operation and ensure public safety. Meanwhile, it remains unclear what caused the building to collapse, though officials suspect poor construction practices may have played a role.
“We are doing everything we can to reach those still trapped,” said an emergency responder on site.
The number of casualties has yet to be confirmed as the search continues.
This tragic incident has sparked renewed concerns about building safety standards as we enter into the rainy season.
