In a momentous announcement, Asmaa James has today officially launched Rise Radio SL 96.3 FM, a groundbreaking community service media organization aimed at empowering and amplifying the voices of women, girls, and young people in addressing critical and emerging issues that affect them.
Dedicated to championing human rights, fostering a just and inclusive society, promoting democracy, progressive governance, and addressing the urgent challenges of climate change, Rise Radio is set to become the beacon of change through its dynamic radio broadcasts.
Rise Radio SL 96.3 FM, aptly described as the “voice of many voices,” stands as a platform that welcomes diverse groups to share their experiences, perspectives, concerns, and viewpoints.
“Rise Radio is the “voice of many voices,” offering space and opportunities to diverse groups to share their experiences, views, concerns and perspectives,” James stated.
Asmaa James is a renowned journalist, activist, and philanthropist with over 20 years of experience in broadcast journalism and management. Her mindful but objective approach has resulted in historic contributions to strengthening democratic governance in Sierra Leone and the continent.
She recently announced her resignation as the station manager at Radio Democracy 98.1 FM, a position she held for over 22 years.
James’ journalism career sprouted from her curiosity and desire to hear and elevate stories. Her stories have started conversations, initiated movements, and helped influence national debate and awareness, leading to change.
She is a public advocate for many issues, especially the multidimensional challenges affecting women and girls. She is an emerging thought leader and serves on various advisory boards and panels.
Her passion to utilise her experiences, insight, and influence led to the establishment of the Asmaa James (AJ) foundation, which empowers women and girls through mentorship, scholarship, and life skills training. She is also the founder of Girls Plus, an initiative of the AJ Foundation, driven by community-led interventions aimed at providing access to education and information on comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights in Sierra Leone.
