Freetown, Sierra Leone – July 3, 2026 – The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security has announced the launch of a comprehensive nationwide data collection exercise, with Labour and Occupational Safety Inspectors currently deployed across the country to gather vital workplace information.
In an official public notice issued on July 2, the Ministry stated that the month-long initiative, running from July 1 to July 31, 2026, aims to strengthen labour administration, enhance workplace safety standards, and produce accurate national labour statistics to support effective policy planning.
According to the notice, inspectors will visit workplaces and businesses in all sectors to collect essential data on employment trends, working conditions, compliance with labour laws, occupational health and safety practices, social security registration, and related employment statistics. The teams are also authorized to conduct brief interviews and observations where necessary to clarify information.
“Employers are kindly requested to cooperate fully and provide accurate information to support this important national exercise,” the Ministry emphasized.
The data collected will be used strictly for official purposes, including policy development, labour monitoring, and the improvement of workplace safety standards across Sierra Leone.
The Ministry assured the public that the exercise forms part of its ongoing efforts to improve labour conditions and ensure reliable data for national development planning.
For further enquiries, members of the public and employers can contact the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security or the Commissioner on 0786 40434.
This nationwide operation is expected to provide the government with up-to-date insights into the state of the labour market and workplace safety, potentially informing future reforms in employment policy and social protection programs.
