A fatal road accident at Saynior Junction in Calaba Town, eastern Freetown, claimed the lives of two people in the early hours of Saturday, according to reports from the scene.
Witnesses said a truck allegedly crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a motorcycle carrying a female passenger who was reportedly travelling from the provinces. The force of the crash is said to have killed both the motorbike rider and the woman instantly.
The collision also caused significant damage to an electricity pole belonging to the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), raising safety concerns among residents and motorists in the area.
Police officers were deployed to the scene shortly after the incident to manage traffic, secure the area, and begin preliminary investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The identities of the victims had not been officially released at the time of reporting, and authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations continue.
The tragic incident has renewed concerns about road safety in Freetown, particularly along busy routes frequently used by commercial vehicles and motorcyclists.
