Freetown – The Sierra Leone Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has announced the much-anticipated timetable for the first phase of the 2026 Teacher Licensure Examinations, signaling a major step forward in professionalizing the country’s teaching workforce.
According to a public notice issued on Tuesday, May 13, 2026, the examinations will be conducted across all districts, beginning on Tuesday, June 2, in Falaba District and wrapping up on July 24–25 in the Western Area Rural District. The full exercise is scheduled to run through July 25.
The Commission has cleared a total of 6,713 teachers whose certificates have been duly verified by the institutions that awarded them. The approved list has already been sent to all district offices for immediate public display.
Registration for this first batch of candidates opened on May 13 and will close on Friday, May 29, 2026. TSC said district offices are offering free registration and booking support to eligible teachers during this period.
Teachers whose names do not appear on the current list have been urged to exercise patience, as the Commission continues to verify credentials.
A second eligibility list is expected to be released in due course for the subsequent cohort.
The licensure examinations form part of broader efforts by the TSC to ensure that only qualified and competent professionals are entrusted with the education of Sierra Leone’s children.
