Freetown, Sierra Leone – February 5, 2026 – The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially launched its online Batch Registration System (BRS) portal for uploading school candidates for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), according to an announcement from Sierra Leone’s Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), Conrad Sackey.
In a social media post, Minister Sackey informed the public, education stakeholders, parents, and students that the portal opened on January 1, 2026, and will remain accessible until February 28, 2026.
He emphasized the need for schools to prioritize the registration process, warning that only accurate and complete data should be submitted to prevent errors.
“Schools bear full responsibility for ensuring the correctness of the information submitted,” Sackey stated.
He added that no extensions to the deadline would be granted under any circumstances, and schools failing to comply could face penalties.
The minister also called on principals to continue verifying candidate details with deputy directors at the district level and to submit final lists to the ministry. This step aims to streamline the process and ensure all eligible students are properly registered.
Parents and guardians were encouraged to play an active role by checking with their children’s schools to confirm that BRS details, including names, subjects, and other key information, have been uploaded correctly.
“Please do not assume that everything has been completed—verify early to avoid last-minute challenges that could affect your child’s participation in the School WASSCE 2026,” Sackey advised, invoking the proverb, “Remember, a stitch in time saves nine.”
The announcement comes amid preparations for the upcoming examinations, which are critical for senior secondary students across West Africa. MBSSE
