Freetown, 2 December 2025 – The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has confirmed that the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) paid a fine of One Hundred and Twenty Thousand New Leones (NLe120,000) on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, bringing to a close a disciplinary case involving one of its district officials.
The penalty was originally imposed on 17 November 2025 after the Commission found that Honourable Lahai Marrah, APC Chairman for Falaba District in the Northern Province, violated Section 39(1)(d) of the Political Parties Act (No. 25) of 2022.
The breach occurred on Saturday, 15 November 2025, during an incident that the PPRC described as conduct likely to bring the party into disrepute or incite political tension.
Section 39(1)(d) prohibits registered political parties and their members from using language or engaging in behaviour that is inflammatory, abusive, or capable of inciting violence against other parties or individuals. Sources close to the matter indicate the violation stemmed from remarks made by Hon. Marrah at a local party meeting that were deemed provocative amid the country’s still-sensitive post-election political climate.
In a brief statement issued today, the PPRC commended the APC leadership for promptly settling the fine, noting that full compliance was received within the stipulated 14-day window.
“The Commission wishes to thank the APC for its cooperation and urges the party to reinforce internal discipline to prevent future infractions,” the release read.
The swift payment is seen as a sign of the APC’s willingness to abide by regulatory oversight as Sierra Leone continues to strengthen democratic institutions ahead of local council and parliamentary by-elections scheduled for 2026.
The PPRC reminded all registered political parties that similar sanctions will be applied consistently to maintain peace and order in the political space.
