Sierra Leone has been ranked among Africa’s top ten most peaceful nations for 2025, according to the latest index published by Business Insider Africa.
The country placed 5th on the continent with a peace score of 1.89, earning it a global ranking of 57 out of more than 160 countries assessed.
The report highlights significant progress in Sierra Leone’s stability, noting improvements in political calm, reduced crime rates, and strengthened community peacebuilding initiatives.
The ranking places Sierra Leone ahead of countries such as Madagascar, Ghana, Zambia, Senegal, and Liberia, a development that underscores the nation’s growing reputation as a safe and stable destination in West Africa.
Mauritius topped the African list, followed by Botswana, Namibia, and The Gambia. Sierra Leone’s strong showing is seen as a positive signal for investment, tourism, and democratic governance.
Analysts point to continued security sector reforms, the active role of civil society, and government commitments to peaceful dialogue as major contributors to the country’s rise.
For many Sierra Leoneans, the ranking serves as a reminder of how far the nation has come since the civil conflict era, and a motivation to safeguard the peace achieved.
The report positions Sierra Leone as a leading example of resilience and national recovery on the African continent.
