In a world often divided by politics and personal interests, stories of genuine compassion and kindness shine like rare gems—reminding us of the humanity that binds us all. Few days ago, Hon. Kargbo shared a profoundly moving story about President Julius Maada Bio that reveals a side of leadership that goes beyond titles and politics: a true leader’s heart that knows no boundaries when it comes to compassion.
Hon. Kargbo’s revelation, shared openly on Liberty TV Online, brings to light a deeply personal and inspiring episode. In his words, when he was almost declared dead in Sierra Leone, it was President Bio who extended a lifeline of support.
He narrated that the President personally paid his medical bills, covering his travel to England, medical expenses, and even went the extra mile by instructing the High Commissioner in London to visit him in the hospital and ensure he received the care he urgently needed.
According to him, the night he was almost declared dead, it was President Bio’s intervention that “reactivated” him.
This is not the story of a man the usual cynics would disparagingly describe as a “sycophant of President Bio”. He is a bigwig in the opposition APC and a respected veteran Journalist who has earned his spot in public service.
Hon. Kargbo deserves admiration for his courage and openness in sharing his story publicly. In the challenging arena of politics, where gratitude is seldom expressed and humility often overshadowed by rivalry, Hon. Kargbo’s heartfelt acknowledgment sets a powerful example. His story encourages a culture of appreciation and highlights the importance of recognizing kindness even across political divides.
President Bio’s generosity has always transcended boundaries. Hon. Kargbo’s story is far from unique; many from the All People’s Congress, Sierra Leone People’s Party and other political parties have at some point received assistance or support from the President. From senior to ordinary citizens, friends and old adversaries alike, countless individuals across the nation, hold a quiet debt of gratitude to a leader whose generosity is neither loud nor boastful.
Hon. Kargbo also spoke of their longstanding friendship, illustrating a man deeply committed to personal bonds. This profound respect for friendship was poignantly displayed during the final farewell to his late ally, Dr. Kadie Sesay.
At the civic laying-out ceremony on Friday, President Bio delivered a tribute with a deed sense of gravitas and sincerity that moved all who witnessed it. The following day, President Bio’s tribute continued through his solemn actions – participating in the Janaza prayer, leading the procession to her final resting place and remaining until the grave diggers raised the last shovel of earth.
President Bio does not seek accolades or public applause for his generosity and friendship. Instead, he leads with a heart guided by empathy and humanity, touching lives in ways that statistics and speeches cannot fully capture.
Hon. Kargbo’s inspiring account is a powerful reminder that true leadership is measured not merely by policies or power but by the depth of kindness, friendship and the courage to reach beyond barriers. President Bio’s actions echo a timeless truth: compassion knows no boundaries.
