FREETOWN, August 30th, 2025 – The Tripartite Steering Committee Secretariat (TSCS) has reported steady progress in the implementation of electoral and governance reforms, with several key institutions surpassing the halfway mark in executing the tripartite recommendations.
Speaking at a donor coordination meeting on Thursday at the Irish Embassy in Freetown, Tripartite Coordinator Ngolo Katta said the Secretariat had achieved notable milestones through collaboration with both state and non-state actors.
He disclosed that inter-agency consultations had been held with elections management bodies, while media organizations such as SLAJ, IRN, MRCG, and Talking Drum Studio have been engaged in supporting reforms at the Independent Media Commission (IMC) and Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC). These efforts, he said, are aimed at strengthening public trust and enhancing civic awareness.
“The path is clearer, the trajectory is revealing and the outcome predictable. We now know where we will arrive, but there is little certainty about when,” Katta remarked, stressing that sustained financial support remains crucial.
According to the Secretariat, institutions including ECSL, PPRC, ONS, SLBC, IMC, and the Independent Police Complaints Board (IPCB) have already achieved over 50 percent of their implementation targets.
UNDP is managing a basket fund to support civic education on the tripartite process, while a consultant has been commissioned to address voter registration and results management systems.
Nationwide civic education and media training on tripartite reporting are expected to begin in the coming weeks.
