Freetown, Sierra Leone – In a proactive move to strengthen public safety ahead of the festive season, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has installed security lights along key sections of the Aberdeen–Lumley beach axis. The initiative aims to enhance night-time visibility, improve security presence, and create a safer environment for citizens and visitors who frequently patronize the area during the holiday period.
The lighting project, which targets strategic dark spots along the beachfront, aligns with the vision of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, to transition the SLP from a force to a service-oriented institution. The broader objective is to build public trust and assure Sierra Leoneans of a responsive and people-centered policing approach.
According to the SLP, the enhanced lighting will support effective patrols and discourage criminal activity as thousands of people are expected to visit the beach for social gatherings, entertainment, and family outings throughout the yuletide season.
Residents and business owners have praised the SLP for what they describe as a timely and commendable intervention. Many expressed renewed confidence in the police’s commitment to safeguarding the public, noting that improved visibility will help reduce fear and promote a more secure festive atmosphere.
The installation of the security lights forms part of ongoing efforts by the SLP to upgrade infrastructure and strengthen community safety across the country.
