Freetown, September 4, 2025 — Former Sierra Leone Vice President and senior All People’s Congress (APC) figure, Alhaji Chief Samuel Samsumana, has issued a renewed call for party unity and national reconciliation, urging his party to return to inclusivity and grassroots politics.
Speaking at a well-attended press conference on Wednesday at the Radisson Blu in Freetown, Samsumana delivered a passionate address that blended personal reflection with political critique.
He reminded Sierra Leoneans that the nation’s future must be anchored on the 1991 Constitution, warning against attempts to impose party clauses or parallel rules that undermine the supremacy of the law.
“I did nothing wrong,” he said, recalling his controversial removal as Vice President. “My decisions were to save lives and preserve peace, not to push Sierra Leone back into conflict.”
Samsumana reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, describing himself as a second-generation member deeply rooted in the party’s history. However, he criticized internal divisions and what he termed “discriminatory clauses” in the party’s constitution, which he argued disenfranchise loyal members. He called on the APC to open its doors to all Sierra Leoneans, regardless of region, tribe, or ethnicity.
Reflecting on past election victories, he urged the party to revive strategies that delivered success in 2007 and 2012, particularly grassroots mobilization. He also pledged to act as an “ambassador of peace” to reconcile disaffected members.
Samsumana further condemned his disqualification ahead of the 2023 polls, saying he would pursue justice through the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) and the courts if necessary.
In closing, he appealed for forgiveness, unity, and a collective national rebirth.
“I am not only working for the resurrection of the APC,” he declared, “but for the redemption of Sierra Leone.”
