Freetown, Sierra Leone – In a significant move towards reinforcing peace and unity in Sierra Leone, President Julius Maada Bio hosted members of the ECOWAS-AU-UNOWAS Mission at the State House in Freetown yesterday.
“Today, I received a joint ECOWAS-AU-UNOWAS Assessment Mission as a follow-up to the Agreement for National Unity signed between the Government of Sierra Leone and the All People’s Congress,” President Bio announced on social media.
During the meeting, President Bio reiterated his government’s commitment to the Agreement, emphasizing the crucial role of dialogue in governance and peace consolidation.
“I reaffirmed my Government’s commitment to the Agreement and underscored the importance of dialogue as a critical component of governance and peace consolidation,” he stated.
President Bio also expressed his gratitude to the mission’s co-leads, H.E. Leonardo Santos Simão and H.E. Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, acknowledging their significant contributions as moral guarantors of the Agreement.
“I expressed my sincere appreciation to the Mission’s Co-leads – H.E Leonardo Santos Simão and H.E Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang – and thanked them for their role as Moral Guarantors to the Agreement,” he added.
The joint ECOWAS, AU, and UNOWAS mission urged all political actors and citizens to prioritize the peace, unity, and stability of the nation above partisan interests. Their unified stance underscores the importance of the National Unity Agreement in fostering a harmonious political climate in Sierra Leone.
