The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has held a one-day intensive training for police prosecutors on the recently enacted Criminal Procedure Act (CPA) 2024.
The session, organised by the SLP Training Directorate in partnership with the Legal and Justice Department, took place at the Police Wives Multipurpose Hall, Kingtom.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sahr Yomba Senesi, speaking on behalf of the Inspector General, described the new law as a milestone in Sierra Leone’s justice system.
He urged prosecutors to master its provisions, stressing that effective application would not only secure convictions but also enhance public confidence in the judiciary.
“The CPA is more than just a law; it is a tool for justice,” he said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Juan Bull Kamara, Head of the Legal and Justice Support Department, reminded participants of their central role in making the law work.
“The courtroom is not a place for endless adjournments. A careless prosecutor is the greatest enemy of justice,” he cautioned.
Director of Training, ACP Joe Kamanda Bongay, added that the exercise was designed to sharpen skills, minimise errors, and boost confidence.
The training, which also drew Senior State Counsel Alberta Kargbo and prosecutors from across the country, is expected to strengthen professionalism in the force and improve the enforcement of justice under the CPA 2024.
