The Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), William Fayia Sellu and the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police (LNP), Gregory O. W. Coleman today signed a landmark bilateral security cooperation agreement in Freetown, marking a major step toward strengthening regional stability and law enforcement coordination.
The agreement underscores the shared commitment of both West African neighbours to confront emerging security threats and safeguard citizens along their common borders.
Under the new framework, the two police institutions will jointly pursue:
- Combating human and drug trafficking
- Tackling organised cross-border crime
- Preventing the spread of small arms and light weapons
- Enhancing intelligence gathering and information sharing
- The collaboration aims to harmonise policing strategies, tighten border controls, and improve operational response to transnational criminal networks.
Both police chiefs described the agreement as a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to enhance subregional security cooperation. They emphasized that Liberia and Sierra Leone—two sister republics bound by history, geography, and shared aspirations—are united in their resolve to build safer, more resilient communities across the Mano River Basin.
The signing ceremony concluded with a joint pledge to deepen coordination, support joint operations, and continue working toward a secure and peaceful region.
