Parliament’s Committees on Communications, Technology & Innovation, and Transparency & Accountability will on Wednesday, 19th November 2025, reconvene for a high-profile public hearing aimed at intensifying scrutiny over the quality of mobile network services in Sierra Leone.
The upcoming session is expected to gather major sector stakeholders, including senior officials from the Ministry of Communications, the National Communications Authority (NatCA), Orange Sierra Leone, and Africell Sierra Leone. Lawmakers say the hearing forms part of Parliament’s continued oversight drive to address widespread public concerns over poor connectivity, frequent call drops, slow internet speeds, and rising data costs.
According to parliamentary sources, MPs are seeking clearer answers and firmer commitments from the country’s two largest mobile operators: Orange and Africell, following earlier engagements that highlighted technical, regulatory, and infrastructural challenges within the telecoms sector.
Legislators are also expected to question NatCA on enforcement measures, spectrum management, and steps being taken to ensure that operators meet required service standards.
The hearing is likely to revisit issues around network expansion, investment in rural coverage, consumer protection, and the operators’ plans to improve service delivery nationwide.
Members of the public, civil society groups, and industry experts are expected to follow the proceedings closely, viewing them as a crucial step toward enhancing digital connectivity and ensuring accountability within the telecom ecosystem.
Parliament has indicated that it will continue these engagements until tangible improvements are felt by the millions of Sierra Leoneans who rely on mobile networks for communication, business, education, and access to essential services.
