Freetown, 19th August 2024 — The Ministry of Finance has announced the transfer of NLe54.44 million to local councils across Sierra Leone as part of the second tranche grant for the fiscal year 2024.
This disbursement aims to support various devolved functions, including essential services in education, health, and rural water management.
According to a statement released by the Ministry, “The Ministry of Finance has remitted a total amount of Fifty-Four Million Four Hundred and Forty Thousand and One Leones (NLe54,440,001) into the respective devolved sector bank accounts of the Twenty-Two (22) Local Councils.”
The funds allocated include NLe2.06 million specifically earmarked for 1,330 peripheral health centres (MCHP, CHP & CHC) across the country. These funds are intended to support the administration of these health facilities.
“The cash to facilities is to support the administration of these facilities,” the Ministry noted.

The Ministry highlighted that these funds are crucial for the continued delivery of basic services, such as education, health, social assistance for disabled and vulnerable groups, solid waste management, and other local council administrative expenses.
