In response to the alarming rise in drug and drug-related offences across Sierra Leone, the Honourable Chief Justice has announced a new directive assigning additional judges and magistrates to handle such cases with urgency.
According to the Judiciary of Sierra Leone, seven judges and four magistrates have been designated in the Western Area, while all judicial officers in the provinces have also been instructed to give priority to drug-related matters.
As part of the directive, court sittings will now extend to Saturdays to ensure the speedy trial and conclusion of pending cases.
“This measure forms part of the Judiciary’s ongoing reforms to guarantee the efficient and timely adjudication of cases involving drug-related offences,” stated Hulaimatu F. Christian-Moses (Mrs.), Deputy Master and Registrar of the High Court of Sierra Leone.
The initiative underscores the Judiciary’s renewed commitment to addressing the country’s growing drug crisis through swift and effective justice delivery.
