Freetown – A leading civil society organization, Health Alert, has demanded immediate investigations by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) into multiple Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) flagged in the 2024 Auditor General’s Report for serious financial irregularities.
The group highlighted widespread issues including massive losses, poor financial oversight, and inadequate record-keeping across government institutions, describing the situation as a clear sign of weak accountability.
Health Alert pointed responsibility directly at the Chief Minister, whose role includes supervising ministries, enforcing performance standards, and ensuring accountability through performance contracts with ministers and MDA heads. The organization argued that the Chief Minister has failed to uphold these duties, allowing mismanagement of taxpayer funds to persist.
“Before signing any new contracts, there must be full accountability for public resources and assets,” the group stated. It warned that ongoing lapses risk further draining national resources and eroding public trust.
Health Alert called on the ACC and PAC to act swiftly and hold all implicated bodies accountable, stressing that strong governance depends on the proper use and transparent tracking of public money.
The 2024 Auditor General’s Report has sparked growing public concern over what some describe as unprecedented levels of misappropriation in recent years, with calls mounting for urgent parliamentary review and action to restore fiscal discipline.
