In a recent video statement, former Minister Ibrahim Washingai Mansaray addressed the nation, vehemently denying his alleged role in the failed coup on November 26th, 2023.
Mansaray dismissed the charges as “false and baseless,” attributing them to individuals driven by “envy and jealousy” in quotes.
During the video, Mansaray challenged the credibility of the accusations, stating, “My house was there when they claimed 13 vehicles went to park on the eve of the coup. It’s implausible for military personnel in 13 vehicles to enter my house, given the numerous checkpoints, including Adokian Police Station, Juba, Mile 13, Tokeh, where I reside.”
Emphasizing the lack of evidence supporting the claims, Mansaray highlighted witnesses attesting to his innocence.
“As I speak, Mercy Bendy, a retired teacher, is in front of my house, testifying that I’m not hosting soldiers. I have no military or police connections, and I advocate for democracy,” he stated.
Mansaray’s video statement comes amidst the ongoing investigation into the alleged coup, with the former minister firmly maintaining his innocence in the face of the accusations.
Ibrahim Washinga Mansaray, who served as former deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation from 2013 – 2016, amd former deputy Minister of Trade and Industry from 2016 – 2018 is one of the prime suspect of the failed attempted coup which resulted to the death of 18 security personnel.
The Sierra Leone Police continue their relentless efforts to locate and apprehend Mansaray, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any relevant information that may aid in his capture.
