Lawyer Lansana Dumbuya, the National Secretary General of the All People’s Congress (APC), has publicly condemned the recent approval of Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) funds to the administration of President Julius Maada Bio.
Dumbuya, known for his outspoken stance, questioned the timing of the MCC Compact, arguing it rewards a government accused of undermining democratic principles.
In his statement, Dumbuya highlighted concerns about the integrity of the recent elections, which have been tainted by allegations of widespread rigging.
He insisted that before financial aid is granted, the government must address these electoral issues and implement the recommendations made by the Tripartite Committee to restore public trust.
“Democratic values must be upheld, and financial support should not be a reward for a government yet to address electoral malpractice. The MCC funds should reflect genuine progress, not embolden those who disregard democracy,” Dumbuya asserted.
His comments echo growing concerns within the APC and other opposition groups, who believe that international partners should push for electoral reforms before offering significant financial support. They argue that premature endorsements may encourage undemocratic actions and further weaken Sierra Leone’s fragile democratic institutions.
