The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) says it is investigating a serious fault that has interrupted electricity from the newly commissioned 10-megawatt peak RESPITE solar power plant in Lungi.
The plant began supplying power to Lungi Township shortly after it was commissioned and ran for roughly three days before the outage struck. EDSA has linked the disruption to a major problem on the newly built 12-kilometre, 11kV medium-voltage line that connects the solar facility to the Lungi Power Station.
Technical teams are now carrying out a full fault analysis and checking the integrity of the network to pinpoint the exact cause and decide the steps needed to restore supply safely.
EDSA has apologised to residents of Lungi and nearby communities for the inconvenience and stressed that work to fix the problem is being treated as urgent.
The authority says it will issue further updates, including an expected restoration timeline, as the investigation progresses.
EDSA reaffirmed its commitment to safely integrating renewable energy sources into Sierra Leone’s national grid and to steadily improving the quality and reliability of electricity supply across the country.
