Freetown, Sierra Leone – A joint police team at the Mile 38 Checkpoint intercepted a man in possession of nine plastic wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
According to police reports, Superintendent Foday Sorie Fofanah, Officer Commanding (OC) of the Mile 38 Checkpoint, led the operation that resulted in the arrest of Manso Bangura of Waterloo.
The suspect was stopped during a routine vehicle and passenger search when officers discovered the nine wraps containing what is believed to be Cannabis Sativa, locally known as “Jamba.”
Both the suspect and the suspected narcotics have been taken into police custody. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the case, including the source and intended destination of the substances.
This arrest underscores the continued efforts by security forces to curb the trafficking and possession of illicit drugs along major routes in the country.
