Freetown, 6 February 2026 — The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has intensified its ongoing clean-up and enforcement operations across the Western Area, removing illegal garages, unauthorised structures, and abandoned vehicles as part of efforts to improve public safety, security, and free movement.
Yesterday’s operation covered several key locations, including Barlatt Street off Syke Street, the area behind Saint Anthony Church, and Back Street around the National Stadium axis.
SLP teams dismantled makeshift and illegal structures, cleared encroachments, and towed away abandoned vehicles obstructing roads and pedestrian access. The exercise restored access routes for residents and commuters and reduced spaces believed to be vulnerable to criminal activity.
The operation was led by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Sahr Yomba Senesi, alongside the Director of Operations, Assistant Inspector General of Police, Dr Martin John Senesie.
Speaking during the exercise, DIG Senesi reaffirmed the SLP’s commitment to working in collaboration with other law enforcement and municipal stakeholders to reclaim public spaces and maintain order. He stressed that the initiative is aimed at deterring unlawful activities and ensuring safer communities.
Property owners and operators were warned to comply with regulations by removing abandoned vehicles and illegal structures. He noted that failure to comply would result in the police taking enforcement action.
The SLP says the clean-up and enforcement drive will continue across the city as part of sustained efforts to maintain public order.
