Freetown, Sierra Leone – January 30, 2026 – The office of former Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma has issued a stern cease and desist notice to the administrators of a Facebook page titled “President Koroma Fans Page 2007-2018,” accusing it of unauthorized impersonation and misrepresentation.
The notice, dated today, demands immediate action to halt the page’s activities or clearly label it as an unofficial fan site, warning of potential legal consequences if ignored.
In the letter, signed by Sheriff Mahmud Ismail on behalf of Koroma’s office, the former president expresses concern over the page’s content, which allegedly presents statements, captions, and materials as if they originate from Koroma himself.
“This conduct constitutes impersonation and misrepresentation,” the notice states, emphasizing that no individual, group, or entity is authorized to speak or communicate on Koroma’s behalf except through his officially designated platforms.
The demands outlined in the document are clear and multifaceted:
1. Immediately cease and desist from presenting the page as representing or issuing statements for H.E. Ernest Bai Koroma.
2. Remove all posts, statements, captions, and materials written in the voice of, signed as, or attributed directly to H.E. Ernest Bai Koroma.
3. If the page remains active, clearly and prominently identify it as an unofficial fan page, with an explicit disclaimer stating that it does not represent or speak for H.E. Ernest Bai Koroma or his office.
Administrators have 72 hours from receipt of the notice to confirm compliance. Failure to comply could lead to formal reporting and enforcement actions against Meta/Facebook, including claims of impersonation, misrepresentation, and unauthorized use of Koroma’s name, image, and public standing as a former Head of State.
The notice acknowledges the goodwill of genuine supporters but stresses the need for clarity to avoid misleading the public.
“While the Office acknowledges and appreciates the goodwill of supporters and the existence of genuine fan engagement, it must be stated clearly and unequivocally that: No individual, group, or entity is authorized to speak, write statements, issue opinions, or communicate on behalf of H.E. Ernest Bai Koroma, except through his officially designated platforms and representatives,” it reads.
Of particular concern, the letter highlights posts on the page that are “not only false but also inconsistent with his long-standing role as a former Head of State committed to peace, constitutional order, and national stability.” It urges all genuine fans to unfollow the page, describing it as “devious and reckless.”
Koroma, who served as President of Sierra Leone from 2007 to 2018, has maintained a low profile since leaving office but remains a significant figure in the country’s political landscape. His administration focused on post-civil war reconstruction, economic development, and anti-corruption efforts.
The official Facebook page for his office is cited as “The Official Office Facebook page (Office of Ernest Bai Koroma, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone 2007 – 2018),” which is authorized for statements and communications issued by or on behalf of Koroma.
The notice concludes without prejudice, reserving all rights and remedies available to Koroma and his office.
“We trust this matter will be addressed promptly and professionally,” it states.
This development comes amid growing scrutiny over social media impersonation in Sierra Leone, where platforms like Facebook play a key role in public discourse and political engagement.
