The Waterloo Police have arrested 25 more inmates who had escaped from the Pademba Road Correctional Center in Freetown during a prison break-in on Sunday, 26th November 2023.
The arrests came after the Local Unit Commander of the Wayerloo Police Division, CSP Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Sama, spearheaded a series of raids in Waterloo and its neighboring villages.
The captured individuals, all male, are currently held at the Waterloo Police Station, where they are said to be cooperating with law enforcement.
Earlier yesterday, the Waterloo Police Division successfully apprehended 12 men who fled the Pademba Road Male Correctional Center in Freetown.
The captured individuals include suspects facing charges related to Murder and various serious criminal offenses.
In a public notice issued on Monday, the Sierra Leone Police urged unlawfully released prisoners or suspects to surrender at the nearest police station, warning of potential arrest and prosecution for “Escape from Lawful Custody” for those who fail to comply.
To expedite the capture and prosecution of the assailants involved in the security breach, the SLP announced a substantial reward of Fifty Thousand New Leones (50,000 NLe) for anyone providing crucial information leading to their arrest. Additionally, a further reward of Ten Thousand New Leones (10,000 NLe) is offered for the arrest of the unlawfully released prisoners or suspects.
The SLP is seeking collaboration from the public, encouraging individuals with relevant information to come forward and aid the ongoing investigation. Recognizing the voluntary surrender of some prisoners, the SLP expresses appreciation for their cooperation.
