Freetown, Sierra Leone — The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) has formally launched the reconstruction of the Kambia–Tomparie–Kamakwie Road, a 105-kilometre route now recognized as the country’s second-largest road infrastructure project.
The announcement was made by SLRA Director General, Ing. Alfred Jalil Momodu, during a stakeholders’ workshop held at the Country Lodge Hotel in Freetown.
The project is funded by the Islamic Development Bank and is expected to significantly boost regional connectivity and economic activity.
Officials noted that the scale of the investment underscores government commitment to strengthening national road networks and supporting the Feed Salone initiative.
A specialized Project Implementation Unit has been established to oversee execution, while contractors have stated that the road is engineered to last more than 27 years.
Representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Works, and the Islamic Development Bank described the road as a strategic economic corridor that will open new trade, agricultural, and investment opportunities for communities across the northwest.
Full construction works are set to commence soon.
