FREETOWN – Police in Moyamba District have arrested six suspects as investigations continue into the death of a two-year-old girl from Normiyama Village in Kori Chiefdom, who is believed to have been sexually assaulted.
According to the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, the arrests were made following initial inquiries conducted jointly by the Ministry’s staff, the Family Support Unit (FSU) of the Sierra Leone Police, and civil society partners.
The suspects are currently in custody and are assisting investigators as they work to determine who is responsible for the crime.
The Ministry confirmed that the child’s remains were transported to Freetown for a post-mortem examination, with senior officials and the police investigative team present during the procedure.
The autopsy report has since been handed over to the police to support the criminal investigation.
Officials say psychosocial support has been provided to the grieving family as the case progresses through the justice system.
The Ministry condemned the incident as a grave act of violence against a child and emphasized that it is working closely with law enforcement to ensure that those responsible face the full force of the law.
