The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has released a public notice outlining strict safety and security measures for the festive season, as thousands prepare for Christmas and New Year celebrations across the country.
According to the announcement, the police will intensify enforcement throughout December and early January, targeting noise control, road safety, and public order.
The SLP stressed that all regulations will be applied without exception.
Key directives include:
* A ban on loud music and excessive noise after 10:00 p.m.
* No street carnivals, processions or parades without written approval from the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
* A nationwide ban on fireworks, including rockets and gun firing.
* Zero tolerance for drunk driving.
* A ban on unregistered vehicles on the streets.
* Vehicles with G plates or temporary registration are prohibited from operating after 6:00 p.m.
* Vehicles must be used strictly for their designated purpose.
* Okada operations remain banned within Freetown’s Central Business District.
* Mask devils and masquerade groups must secure police clearance before public appearances.
* Religious organisations must obtain written permission for any street processions.
The police also announced designated parking zones around Lumley and Aberdeen beaches, along with towing teams to maintain order as crowds increase at these popular holiday destinations.
Extending seasonal greetings to the public, the Inspector General urged citizens to comply with the guidelines to ensure a peaceful festive season and a safe start to 2026.
