As part of Sierra Leoneโs intensified nationwide campaign to eradicate drug and substance abuse, the Special Joint Force under the National Taskforce for Drug and Substance Abuse has ramped up enforcement operations in key hotspots across the country.
In a powerful demonstration of institutional commitment, the Inspector General of Police, Fayia Sellu, personally joined the field team to assess progress, motivate personnel, and reaffirm the governmentโs unwavering dedication to the fight. His presence on the ground sends a clear message. The battle against illicit drugs, especially the deadly Kush substance is a top national priority that demands leadership at the highest level.
IGP. Selluโs direct involvement carries profound significance. It not only boosts morale among frontline officers but also symbolizes a unified and strategic approach to combating drug abuse. His participation bridges the gap between policy and action, reinforcing the idea that this crisis affects every facet of Sierra Leonean society and requires a whole-of-nation response.
Addressing officers during the operation, IGP. William Fayia Sellu praised their courage, discipline, and relentless efforts. He emphasized that law enforcement alone cannot win this battle. It must be a collective effort involving all Sierra Leoneans.
โThe success of this fight depends on our communities, families, traditional and religious leaders, youth groups, and every concerned Sierra Leonean,โ he stated. โWe must all work together to share information, raise awareness, and protect our people from the devastating effects of these dangerous substances.โ
His visit served as a major morale boost to the taskforce teams engaged in raids, surveillance, and public sensitization campaigns nationwide. It also reaffirmed the governmentโs commitment to safeguarding public health, enhancing community safety, and promoting the overall well-being of every citizen.
The nationwide operations continue with renewed vigor as the Taskforce strengthens partnerships, intensifies intelligence gathering, and mobilizes communities to stand firm against drug trafficking and abuse in every corner of Sierra Leone.
