Freetown, Sierra Leone — The Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) has strongly rejected widespread social media reports alleging the illegal smuggling of sixteen containers through the Freetown Port, describing the claims as “false, misleading, and entirely baseless.”
In a statement released this week, the Authority stressed that no such incident had taken place and warned that the circulation of unverified information appeared aimed at damaging public confidence in the institution and its management.
“The SLPHA does not operate on Sundays, contrary to the misleading claims online,” the statement clarified, adding that all official operations are carried out strictly on working days.
The Ports Authority also pointed out that those spreading the story had failed to provide container numbers or shipment details to back their claims.
It further assured the public that every cargo transaction at the port undergoes thorough customs and security checks, monitored through advanced tracking systems jointly managed with the National Revenue Authority, the Sierra Leone Police, and other agencies.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, the SLPHA urged citizens to disregard the unfounded reports and instead rely on verified updates from its official communication channels.
The Authority reiterated its determination to uphold efficiency, integrity, and modernization in line with the Government’s broader national development goals.
