Freetown, 8th October 2025 — The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has announced a series of high-profile security operations, including the seizure of thousands of weapons and the interception of narcotics at Water Quay.
The disclosure was made on Wednesday during the SLP’s weekly press briefing at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess in Kingtom, Freetown, led by the Director of Operations, AIG John Matine Senesie.
According to police reports, one of the most significant discoveries involved a shipping container loaded with 4,269 daggers and swords.
Authorities said the items were imported under suspicious circumstances and are now under investigation.
The police confirmed that persons linked to the consignment are currently assisting with inquiries as detectives work to establish the intended use of the weapons.
Describing the seizure as a proactive security measure, the SLP stressed that the operation was critical in preventing the circulation of dangerous arms that could undermine public safety and national security.
