Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone (PBSL) has issued a public alert over two potentially dangerous pharmaceutical products discovered on the market: counterfeit Diclofenac Tablets and a fake version of the registered anti-malarial drug, Paludic.
In a statement dated 17 September 2025 and signed by Registrar Dr. James P. Komeh, the Board revealed that the Diclofenac Tablets were illegally imported by Leigh Pharmaceuticals without the mandatory import permit, making their safety and effectiveness impossible to guarantee.
The PBSL also confirmed that the suspect Paludic is a counterfeit of the genuine product registered by Abanita Pharmaceuticals.
The Board has urged the public to avoid these products and to immediately report any sightings through its official channels.
The warning follows a recent agreement between the PBSL and the Sierra Leone Police to intensify action against illegal drug sales and medicine-related crimes.
Authorities say the swift alert underscores their commitment to protecting public health and ensuring the nation’s pharmaceutical supply remains safe and regulated.
