Freetown, Sierra Leone – September 9, 2025: A 22-year-old man, Alie Bockarie, has been remanded at the Male Correctional Center after being found in possession of 30 wraps of kush, a banned substance under Sierra Leone’s drug laws.
Bockarie appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 on Monday, facing a single count of unlawful drug possession, contrary to Section 8(a) of the National Drug Control Act of 2008.
The alleged incident dates back to March 2024 at the Regent Car Wash Area in Freetown.
During the hearing, State Prosecutor A.B.N. Taylor Kamara called the first witness, Police Constable Musa Manju of the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU).
Manju testified that the case file included the accused’s caution statement, forensic test results, and legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
He added that Bockarie confirmed his statement by thumbprint after it was read back to him in Krio.
Magistrate Jah adjourned the matter to September 10, 2025, for continuation of proceedings.
The case has reignited public debate as authorities grapple with a surge in kush-related offenses across the country.
