Freetown, Saturday, 11 October 2025 — Twenty officers of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have departed for the People’s Republic of China on a 21-day training programme aimed at enhancing their professional capabilities and strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
The training forms part of the SLP’s ongoing transformation agenda to build a more skilled and globally competent police service.
Speaking during the send-off ceremony, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Sahr Yomba Senesi, urged the officers to make the most of the opportunity and to uphold the values and discipline of the SLP while abroad.
He emphasized that their conduct while in China is crucial, as it could determine whether Sierra Leone continues to receive similar opportunities in the future and help deepen the bond between the two nations.
He further encouraged the officers to return home with enhanced knowledge and skills that would contribute to the overall growth and efficiency of the police service.
Echoing similar sentiments, the Director of Training, ACP Joe Kamanda Bongay, underscored the importance of professionalism and patriotism throughout the training.
He reminded the officers that they are ambassadors of Sierra Leone and urged them to represent the country with pride, maintain discipline, and create a positive image that reflects national values.
ACP Bongay also noted that the officers’ presence in China presents an opportunity to challenge misconceptions about Sierra Leone through their professionalism and conduct.
He expressed appreciation to the Chinese government for its continued support in building the capacity of the Sierra Leone Police.
The 21-day programme is expected to expose participants to modern policing techniques, community policing strategies, and international best practices.
Upon their return, the officers are expected to share their experiences and contribute to improving policing standards across the country.
This initiative highlights the SLP’s commitment to continuous learning, global partnership, and the professional development of its personnel.
