Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) has begun clearing structures at Dwazark Junction in Freetown after officially classifying the area as a right of way to facilitate major road construction.
The move has led to the demolition of shops, kiosks, and other buildings that the SLRA says are obstructing the project.
According to the Authority, removing these structures is essential to allow uninterrupted work on the road, which is expected to improve traffic flow and accessibility in the city.
While the clearance has sparked concern among affected business owners, the SLRA maintains that such actions are necessary for long-term community benefits.
The agency emphasised that the project will deliver better roads, safer transport, and more efficient movement of goods and people once completed.
Residents and traders are being urged to cooperate with the demolition exercise and support the ongoing works. The SLRA says it is committed to completing the project on schedule, despite short-term disruptions to businesses and daily activities in the area.
