Senior officials from the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Liberia National Police (LNP) on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, held a high-level working session in Monrovia to review progress on the recently signed bilateral security communiqué between the two neighbouring countries.
The meeting, held at the LNP Headquarters Conference Hall, focused on refining implementation strategies and developing a draft roadmap for the proposed Mano River Union Police Chiefs Committee.
The specialised body is expected to boost cooperation, reinforce joint security operations, and promote lasting peace and stability among police leadership within the Mano River Union (MRU) basin.
Both delegations reaffirmed their commitment to resolving any disagreements strictly through legal and diplomatic channels in line with national and international law, rejecting the use of threats or force.
During the session, the technical working group held extensive discussions across four key priority areas:
* Cross-border crime prevention and intelligence sharing
* Joint training and capacity-building initiatives
* Advancing community policing practices
* Strengthening cybersecurity and tackling human trafficking and other transnational crimes
Officials from both institutions outlined practical steps to implement the communiqué, stressing that improved coordination would reduce bureaucratic delays and enhance responses to national security concerns.
The joint team also mapped out priority areas for phased implementation, aimed at deepening cooperation and supporting long-term peace and stability across the MRU region.
