In a significant leadership update, the Police Council of Sierra Leone has appointed Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Sahr Yomba Senesi as the new Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP).
This decision aligns with Section 157(2) of the Sierra Leone Constitution and underscores the Council’s commitment to bolstering the SLP’s leadership and operational efficiency.
AIG Senesi, who previously served as the Director of Training, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His tenure has been marked by significant contributions to the professional development of the force, including overseeing intensive training programs for both police and immigration officers. Notably, in October 2024, he led a three-day training for 250 immigration officers at the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy in Hastings, aimed at integrating them into the country’s uniformed security framework.
In November 2024, under his guidance, 26 police personnel were certified as INTERPOL experts after completing specialized training in environmental and pharmaceutical crime. This initiative was part of a broader effort to enhance the SLP’s capacity to tackle complex crime areas effectively.
AIG Senesi’s appointment as DIG is expected to further strengthen the SLP’s leadership structure, enhancing its ability to maintain law and order across Sierra Leone. His extensive experience and dedication to capacity building within the force position him well to take on this pivotal role.
