The Judiciary of Sierra Leone has issued a public alert over a fraudulent scheme involving the impersonation of Honourable Justice Hannah Bonnie through the Orange Money platform.
According to an official statement, the fraudster has been operating with the mobile number +2327985571, using the WhatsApp profile photo of Justice Bonnie (J) to deceive unsuspecting individuals and extort money from them under false pretenses.
The Judiciary described the act as a calculated attempt not only to defraud members of the public of their hard-earned income but also to smear the reputation of Justice Bonnie, a respected figure within Sierra Leone’s legal system.
In a strongly worded condemnation, the Judiciary’s leadership distanced itself — and all judicial officers — from the scam, clarifying that no judicial official is involved in any such criminal activity.
“The public is advised to remain vigilant and not to fall victim to these deceitful individuals. The Judiciary will not tolerate any actions that seek to bring its reputation into disrepute,” the statement emphasized.
Furthermore, the Judiciary confirmed it will formally request the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Sierra Leone Police to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those behind this scheme are identified and prosecuted.
This latest scam highlights the growing misuse of mobile money platforms and social media for fraudulent activities in Sierra Leone. Authorities continue to urge the public to verify any suspicious communications and avoid sending money to unknown individuals.
