The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, has announced the upcoming inauguration of newly elected Mayors, Chairpersons, Deputies, and Councilors across the country.
The ceremony, led by the Honorable Vice President who also serves as the Chairman of the Inter Ministerial Committee on Local Governance, aims to mark the official commencement of their roles in local councils.
The inauguration events are scheduled to take place in all five regional headquarters of Sierra Leone on the following dates:
- Southern Region: Thursday, August 10th, 2023, at 9:00 am, Bo District Council Hall.
- Eastern Region: Friday, August 11th, 2023, at 9:00 am, Kenema City Council Hall.
- Western Urban/Rural: Tuesday, August 15th, 2023, at 9:00 am, Freetown City Council Hall.
- North West Region: Wednesday, August 16th, 2023, at 9:00 am, Port Loko District Council Hall.
- Northern Region: Tuesday, August 22nd, 2023, at 9:00 am, Bombali District Council Hall.
All elected officials, including Mayors, Chairpersons, Deputies, and Councilors, are requested to attend the ceremonies in their respective regions. Additionally, local authorities are urged to ensure widespread publicity of the occasion through both local print and electronic media. The presence of sitting Paramount Chiefs in the councils is also requested at these significant events.
The Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs expresses anticipation for the cooperation of all relevant parties and looks forward to a successful series of inaugurations.
