Lawyer Ady Macauley, one of the legal representatives of Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, All Peoples Congress (APC) leader, Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara in the ongoing alleged corruption matter in has provided update on his appearance today at the Anti-Corruption Commission office in Freetown.
In post shared on X formally Twitter, he stated that, “Dr. Samura Kamara, accompanied by his lawyers, today attended the Anti- Corruption Commission Office at Tower Hil FT in compliance with the Court of Appeal Order of 7th December 2023.
“Statement was obtained from him in respect of the sale of shares allegedly held by the Government of Sierra Leone in Sierra Rutile (SL) Ltd. He has now returned home, the ACC will communicate the date when he wi be required next to attend their office.”
“Dr. Samuara Kamara reiterates his willingness to cooperate with the investigation as he is most eager to clear hi name and put an end to all speculations and misconceptions.”
Last week, the Court of Appeal directed Dr. Samura Kamara to promptly present himself to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for a thorough criminal investigation.
Justices Ivan Sesay, Alhaji Momoh-Jah Stevens, and Adrian Fisher stipulated that if Dr. Kamara fulfills the financial obligations outlined in the Government White Paper, he will be exempt from prosecution.
The ACC contends that Dr. Kamara, along with five co-accused individuals, misled authorities and mishandled public funds, specifically in the context of the Chancery Building renovation project in New York.
Dr. Samura Kamara firmly denying any wrongdoing and characterizing the charges as part of a calculated smear campaign against him.
