In a gripping twist in the treason trial of Amadu Koita and eleven co-defendants, Inspector Tamba Kasigbama of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), appearing as the eighth prosecution witness, unveiled shocking findings suggesting that the accused sought spiritual fortification from a local herbalist in anticipation of their alleged operation on November 26, 2023.
Under intense scrutiny from Sigismund A. Conteh, the lead defense attorney for Koita Makalo, Inspector Kasigbama defended the credibility of Koita’s statements while facing cross-examination. Koita’s denial of meeting with Sergeant Koroma for weapons procurement was dissected, with Kasigbama clarifying details regarding the suspension of Koita’s interview and the presence of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Juan Bull.
The investigation’s focus on financial transactions raised eyebrows, with questions surrounding the alleged fortification payments to individuals involved. Kasigbama confirmed that Koita and others had visited a herbalist named Pa Sesay for protection against gunshots, a revelation that stirred controversy during the trial.
Despite objections, Justice Komba Kamanda allowed scrutiny of the herbalist’s role, citing its relevance to the case. Kasigbama reiterated that multiple accused individuals confirmed seeking spiritual fortification against bullets from Pa Sesay at Matekeh Village.
With tensions running high, Justice Kamanda adjourned proceedings, sending all accused persons back to remand. The trial is set to resume on Monday, March 4, 2024, promising further revelations in this gripping legal saga.
