On December 16, 2023,, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) convened at the National Party Headquarters on Wallace Johnson Street, Freetown, for a significant National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
The following key resolutions were reached during the session:
1. Congratulations to President Julius Maada: The NEC extends hearty congratulations to President Julius Maada for his decisive victory in the June 24, 2023, Presidential elections. The party expresses gratitude for his steadfast leadership and wishes him success in his second term.
2. Endorsement of Mediated Dialogue: Aligning with the SLPP press statement of October 20, 2023, the NEC endorses the Mediated Dialogue between the Government of Sierra Leone and the All Peoples Congress (APC). The council approves the establishment of a committee to collaborate with other parties for an Interparty Dialogue framework.
3. Committees for Election Review and Constitution: The NEC approves committees to assess the roles and activities of committees involved in the June 24, 2023, elections and to review the SLPP’s August 11, 2020 Party Constitution.
4. Vacancies in Executive Positions: The NEC approves the filling of executive positions in various districts and directs further consultations for the vacant District Chairman position in Bonthe District.
5. Appointments and Approvals: The council approves Samuel James Brima Esq. as Legal Advisor 3, Ibrahim F Sawaneh Esq. as Legal Advisor 2, and Borbor Wilson Bockarie as Managing Editor of the Unity News Paper. Financial statements and audited reports are also granted approval.
6. Recognition of Ghana Chapter: The NEC officially recognizes the Ghana Chapter of the SLPP as a full branch, pending the payment of full membership dues to the party treasury.
7. **Call for Peace: The NEC urges members to uphold peace and tranquility in the Republic of Sierra Leone.
