The Sierra Leone Football Association’s (SLFA) Electoral Appeals Committee has upheld the results of the August 2, 2025 elections, confirming Babadi Kamara’s victory as President with 43 votes against Aminata Bangura’s 11, and one abstention.
The ruling came after appeals were lodged by presidential candidate Aminata Bangura, ex-officio candidate Musa K.D. Mahmood, and football club Freetonians SLIFA, who challenged both the Ordinary Congress and the election process.
In its decision, the Committee dismissed calls to annul the election, ruling that the alleged irregularities did not materially alter the outcome. However, it highlighted serious concerns about the conduct of the process, including the late publication of the voter list and the controversial removal of SLIFA delegate Benjamin Gordon Esq.
The Committee strongly condemned the incident and referred it to the Independent Police Complaints Board (IPCB) for investigation.
To strengthen transparency and credibility in future elections, the Committee directed the SLFA to implement several reforms. These include publishing the final delegate list at least 48 hours before voting, documenting leadership absences and delegation of authority, and ensuring protocols are in place to protect delegates from intimidation or harm.
The ruling stated that each party will cover its own costs. While the decision is binding, the right to appeal under the SLFA Statutes remains available.
