In a shocking revelation, the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Abass Bundu, has exposed evidence of conflict of interest, embezzlement, and corruption within the administration of Parliament.
Dr. Bundu contends that allegations of sexual harassment against him are a diversion tactic, shifting focus away from serious accusations against the Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Paran Tarawally, and his spouse.
In a recent social media post, Dr. Bundu argued, “You cannot use the argument of morality to undercut the law when evidence abounds that legal abuse of office, conflict of interest, embezzlement, and corruption is rupturing the administration of Parliament.”
The National Grand Coalition (NGC) has issued a press release, accusing the Speaker of failing to take decisive action against Tarawally, who faces corruption charges from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The NGC finds it alarming that despite the gravity of the allegations, Parliament’s leadership has yet to address the issue, raising concerns about integrity, accountability, and transparency within the legislative body.
This scandal is not isolated; in October 2020, under Speaker Bundu’s leadership, Parliament suspended two whistleblowers, Hon. Hindolo Moiwo Gevao and Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, for exposing corruption concerns within the institution. The NGC highlights a systemic problem, where those raising legitimate concerns face punitive measures while accused wrongdoers escape accountability.
The NGC calls on Dr. Abass Bundu to demonstrate decisive leadership, ensuring immediate, transparent, and impartial investigations into the allegations against the Clerk of Parliament. They emphasize the need for consistent punitive measures proportional to the nature, extent, and monetary value of corruption offenses.
The integrity of Sierra Leone’s Parliament hangs in the balance as the nation awaits the outcome of these critical investigations.
