Accra, 13 November 2025 – The Sierra Leone High Commissioner to Ghana, Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba, has requested an urgent meeting with Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, following reports of alleged mistreatment of a Sierra Leonean woman by officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).
The request follows the circulation of videos showing a heated confrontation between immigration officers and the Sierra Leonean national at the Vicsem Hotel in Ogbojo, a suburb of Accra.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman — said to be a registered nurse who had lived in the United States for 35 years, was among more than 20 West African nationals awaiting deportation.
She was reportedly dragged from her hotel room after refusing to comply with a deportation order. Witnesses further claim she suffered an asthma attack during the altercation, after pleading with authorities to remain in Ghana, citing that she had no relatives in Sierra Leone.
In a formal letter addressed to Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, High Commissioner Kaisamba expressed deep concern over the incident and its potential impact on the safety and dignity of Sierra Leonean citizens in Ghana.
“Given the gravity of the matter and its implications for the welfare of Sierra Leonean citizens residing in or transiting through Ghana, I would appreciate the opportunity to engage the Honourable Minister at the earliest possible convenience,” the letter read in part.
The Ghana Immigration Service has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
Meanwhile, the Sierra Leone High Commission in Accra has assured that it is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to engage with Ghanaian authorities to ensure the protection of its nationals.
