Freetown, Sierra Leone – December 19, 2023* – Today, the Acting Auditor-General of Sierra Leone officially announced the tabling of the Audit Report on the Accounts of Sierra Leone for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2022.
The report, originally submitted to Parliament on December 14, 2023, has now been presented in Parliament on this day.
In accordance with Section 119(2) of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, the Auditor-General is constitutionally mandated to conduct audits of the Public Accounts of Sierra Leone, covering various public offices such as courts, central and local government administrations, universities, and similar public institutions, as well as statutory corporations and organizations established by Parliament.
Furthermore, Section 119(4) of the 1991 Constitution outlines that the Auditor-General must submit the audit report to Parliament within twelve months of the conclusion of the immediate preceding financial year.
The report is expected to highlight any irregularities in the audited accounts and draw attention to matters deemed crucial for Parliament’s attention.
