On December 20, 2023, Parliament officially endorsed the appointment of Mrs. Jeneba Kpaka Bangura as the Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA). Mrs. Bangura, previously the Deputy Commissioner General from November 2018 to July 2023, played a pivotal role in advancing the NRA’s digitalization initiatives, transitioning manual processes to comprehensive digital solutions.
With an impressive track record as a financial management expert spanning 25 years across public, private, and non-profit sectors, Mrs. Bangura holds the esteemed title of Certified Public Accountant and possesses a Masters degree in Public Administration.
Before assuming the role of Commissioner General, she served as Deputy Minister of Finance 1 at the Ministry of Finance for the preceding five months. Mrs. Kpaka Bangura’s dedication to tax administration is underscored by her membership in the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) Women Tax Network (AWTIN), where she currently holds the position of Vice-Chair on the AWTIN Board.
As the second female Commissioner General after Haja Kallah Kamara (2009-2018), Mrs. Kpaka Bangura brings extensive expertise in Sierra Leone Tax Administration, Public Finance, and Accounting. Her diverse experience, including roles at the State Comptroller’s Office of New York and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, positions her to enact transformative change at the NRA.
Renowned for her innovative and unorthodox managerial abilities, Mrs. Jeneba Kpaka Bangura successfully spearheaded multiple reforms during her tenure as Deputy Commissioner General. Her unwavering professionalism, abundant energy, and calm temperament are expected to fuel growth and development within the NRA.
During the approval session, Parliament urged the new Commissioner General to enhance revenue generation efforts and institute professional standards in the country’s tax administration. The stage is set for Mrs. Kpaka Bangura to steer the NRA toward a new era of progress and efficiency.
