In a recent turn of events, Sierra Leone’s social media landscape has been marred by the circulation of information regarding the demise of Major Issa Turay. In response to these claims, the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has confirmed that Major Turay passed away due to natural causes on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at approximately 9:00 am.
According to YS Brima, a Major serving as the Media Operations Officer at RSLAF Headquarters, Cockerill Barracks, Freetown, the late Major Turay had been grappling with health challenges for an extended period, which ultimately culminated in his unfortunate passing.
He disclosed that early on the fateful Wednesday, he collapsed at his residence within the Armed Forces Training Centre (AFTC) in Benguema.
“He was then taken to Medical Inspection (MI) room at AFTC from where he was URGENTLY moved on a military ambulance to 34 Military Hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced DEAD on arrival,” Major Brima stated.
He went on to clarify that Major Turay was not included in the list of officers who were arrested or marked as “WANTED” in connection with the ongoing investigations into matters of subversion. “Hence, there is NO REASON to even believe the DELIBERATE lie,” he added.
Major Brima said that the late Major held a distinguished record as one of the inaugural military officers trained by IMATT shortly after the culmination of the rebel war in 2002. He noted that throughout his tenure, he exhibited brilliance as a military instructor at AFTC, leaving an indelible mark on those he mentored.
“Anyone wishing to verify the circumstance of his death can contact his elder brother, Alusine Turay on 077 373 958,” he stated.
