The proposed tollgate fee increase, which was set to be implemented on March 1st, 2024 has been put on hold following the intervention of the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Works and Public Assets, Hon Bashiru Silikie.
In a directive to the Minister of Works and Public Assets, Dr Dennis Sandi, and the China Rail Seventh Group (CRSG), Chairman Silikie has requested a halt to the planned tollgate charges increase.
Chairman Silikie emphasized the need for the submission of a price review of the draft price formula for the tollgate charges, as well as other pertinent documents such as traffic data and financial reports, to be presented to parliament for review.
Additionally, members of the committee have called for a comprehensive review of the agreement between the government and the CRSG.
This decision to put the tollgate increase on hold reflects the committee’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the implementation of such charges.
By requesting a thorough review of the pricing formula and related documents, the committee aims to safeguard the interests of the public and ensure that any tollgate charges are fair and justified.
The outcome of this review process will be crucial in determining the future direction of the tollgate charges and the agreement between the government and the CRSG.
